Family narrative

Introduction

Our home is a place we love. We are Thomas and Michael and we live with our two cats, Jack and Charlie. Our neighborhood is a friendly, suburban one close to the beach, and we live in walking distance to local shops and restaurants. We are open to either one boy or two boys becoming part of our family.

Lifestyle and interests

Although we enjoy traveling, we also enjoy time at home and spending time with family and friends. We take walks or ride bikes to the beach just minutes from our home. We also like to drive the hour and a half to the local mountains to have getaways in our modest cabin in the woods. We love to read, keep up with the news, and we always vote. We love food and love having popcorn at the movies. However, sometimes enjoying the sun and fresh air on our front porch is all we need. Or building a fire in the fireplace and lighting a few candles. But all in all, we enjoy quality time in whatever form it may take in the moment.

Experience with children

Thomas grew up assisting his mother, a preschool teacher in suburban Virginia, with the children in her classes. We both grew up with siblings, and now we have a combined 12 nieces and nephews. We both have professional experience with youth, Thomas through his job at Disneyland and as a Teaching Artist, and Michael with his career working on various television shows with multiple children as cast members. In 2018, we became the foster parents of a 17 year old, and that two-plus year placement taught us more about having children than all our previous experiences combined. Additionally, we have had a wonderful experience matching with a teenager through Kidsave which is ongoing.

Support network

We are blessed to have an incredible network of friends and family. They have been a pillar of strength and stability in our relationship.

Our home is a place we love. In it, we strive to provide a warm, inviting atmosphere for the people we care about and for each other. We trust that it can be a safe, nurturing, happy home for a child, or children, which may one day become a part of our family.

Available resources

We live in a major metropolitan city in California, in close proximity of schools, beaches, parks, museums, hospitals, movie theaters and restaurants. Local mountains are an hour and a half away, and Los Angeles and Hollywood are a short drive as well.
